Welcome to First Congregational Church

Jan_Small_Painting_400.jpg

With Gratitude and Commitment,

We remain The First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, New London, Connecticut.  The building is gone but the church is the people. We will continue to grow in faith and love, and will sustain our relationships in the City of New London and the region.

We are a small, open and affirming, adult, Christ-centered community. We welcome you wherever you are on your faith journey. We explore and develop our faith through action and contemplation. Our weekly worship service blends a Bible passage, related message, and responses from the congregation with prayers, hymns and Communion. Our weekly faith practices strengthen and energize our focus and our trust in the power of God’s Love in our world.

We are profoundly grateful for the outpouring of support shown to Engaging Heaven Church and ourselves.  We were blessed to share this space with Engaging Heaven for more than a decade.  We have watched them grow and take root.  Our world needs the best of young faith and old faith wisdoms.

As First Church, we resolve to honor the past as we embrace the future. We will work to create an accessible archive of church history. And we will continue to add to that history.

New Worship Location

This Sunday's worship service will be at 9:30am at Hallam Chapel at St. James Episcopal Church, 76 Federal Street.

Our heartfelt thanks to St. James for providing this space for us.

The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the Word of our God remains forever.

- Isaiah 40:8

“It is madness to wear ladies’ straw hats and velvet hats to church; we should all be wearing crash helmets. Ushers should issue life preservers and signal flares; they should lash us to our pews. For the sleeping god may wake someday and take offense, or the waking god may draw us out to where we can never return.”
―Annie Dillard
